Should I get my boyfriend a snowboard for Christmas?

We've been together for almost two years and lately (the past 6 months) we've started to get pretty serious, commitment wise. He bought me a ring and I love it. Would buying him a snowboard be too much? My finances aren't wonderful but I can afford it. It would be his first snowboard. I've already told him I couldn't afford one so if I get it for him it will be a HUGE surprise. What do you think?
